There are many Indian female politicians who
take care to dress up well these days. They are known not only for their
service to the nation but also for their style and attitude. Today, the
female political leaders have bought a change in the face of politics by
their lively personality and their dressing sense.
We present below few of
India's fashionable political leaders:
SONIA GANDHI
The first in the list of fashionable political
leaders is Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president. Her signature style is
the crisp, sharp sarees and kurta sets. She has a good collection of Cotton,
khadi, handloom silks handpicked from different corners of India. Her sarees
have the design details like Temple and rudraksh borders in saris, ikat
weaves, a touch of gold threadwork etc. Most of the sarees are in cream,
white, earthy ochres and browns, deep maroon, indigo. She has a very elegant
appearance. And during her diplomatic visits abroad and in winters, we see
her teaming sharply tailored jackets or long coats with cravat-like sari
pallus. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, is often praised for her haute couture
and many admit that her modest style makes her a fashion leader in the
Parliament. Sonia Gandhi presents the true picture of an Indian woman. She
knows that she has a national image to carry, which she portrays very well.
RENUKA CHOWDHURY
Another fashionable lady in the political circuit
is Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Choudhury. She is known for
her carefully careless style and bright coloured
saris. It is reported that she picks up her
collection from weavers in Andhra Pradesh.
VASUNDHARA RAJE SCINDIA
Daughter of Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia and
Jivaji Rao Scindia of Gwalior, Vasudhara Raje Scindia is the BJPs face in
Rajasthan. She was the first women Chief Minister of Rajasthan. She is known
to be a well dressed personality in the Parliament. She is even known to
have walked the ramp to promote khadi. In all public meetings and parliament
sessions, she is always seen in her hand woven silk and
cotton sarees.
JAYA PRADA
Actress turned politician Jaya Prada is known for her
eternal beauty and style. She may have been the first woman MP who dared to
come in trouser suits to the Lok Sabha but her trademark style is always her
south Indian silk sarees with ethnic jewelry. Infact she also walked the
ramp in a colorful outfit specially designed by Ashima - Leena at the Wills
Lifestyle India Fashion Week last year. "Even if I am into politics
now, I am still an actress....and I like dressing up. I think it's fine if
politicians go in for a bit of glamour at times," she said.
PRIYANKA GANDHI
Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of Congress President
Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister, Late Mr. Rajeev Gandhi might not be
a political leader, but she surely is a public figure. So, what she does,
matters to the political India. Priyanka Gandhi had taken the fashion world
by storm when she walked into parliament in a stylish black trousers and a
white shirt with a broad belt to hear her brother Rahul Gandhi's speech
during the crucial trust vote debate. She hit the headlines for breaking the
stereotype of saris and
salwar-kameez clad women in parliament. But
then she never sticks to one dressing style. She is known to experiment a
lot with her dress and hair. She is seen in western outfits as well as
sarees and suits. Priyanka Gandhi has carried them all with confidence and
poise. The young generation can easily relate to her. She is a youth icon.
Recently she has changed her hair style which has created a striking
resemblance with her late grand mother, Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
